As for the overheating, as noted above, this could be due to low coolant.

I have a 2002 bmw x5 4.6is and lately it has been overheating. Your bmw does not have an oil pressure gauge … and the symptoms that you're describing would be engine temperature related. The radiator hose has just been replaced and the air has been bled from the raditor but it still overheats.
I find that if the air conditioner is being used, the car will overheat faster.
This would be likely if the coolant level is not low. My 117,000 mile 2007 bmw is smoking white smoke from tailpipes.i just noticed after running the car for 30 mins,turned it off and back on to close muy window.smoke came billowing out of both tailpipes. Curiously enough the car only overheats in the morning when its. 04 bmw 325i overheating solved!
